In addition to his long, successful career as a physician caring for patients, Dr. Peter Fung has voted as an El Camino Healthcare Director to invest millions in programs for mental health, women’s healthcare, housing and economic assistance for our community.
Physician and Former Director, Peter C. Fung MD Stroke Center
Peter Fung is an American Board-certified Internist and Neurologist specializing in Stroke and Vascular Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology, and Pain Medicine.
From 2005 to 2015, he served as the Medical Director of El Camino Hospital’s Stroke Program, which because of his dedication and philanthropy is now named the Peter C. Fung MD Stroke Center.
Dr. Fung retired from his clinical practice in 2022.
Co-founder, El Camino Hospital Chinese Health Initiative
Peter Fung has made a special impact on the Asian American community as a co-founder of the El Camino Hospital Chinese Health Initiative.
The initiative aims to address healthcare disparities among the Chinese population in the Bay Area, particularly in the areas of mental health, cancer, stroke, hypertension, and diabetes.
Today, it has grown into one of the largest and most successful organizations providing free population health programs for the Chinese population in California.

In 2014, Peter Fung was elected by Santa Clara County voters to serve as a Director on the El Camino Health District Board of Directors, overseeing a $1.3 billion budget responsible for providing quality healthcare to millions of local residents.
By first prioritizing financial health, he led El Camino Health to become one of the best in the country, receiving multiple awards while providing exceptional service.

The hospital is known for providing top-tier patient care and has been a Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) hospital Five-Star Quality rated hospital with Nursing Excellence Magnet Award. Among many other awards and recognitions, both El Camino Hospital, Mountain View and Los Gatos have received Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade A designation.
Despite the challenges posed by the COVID pandemic, El Camino Hospital has maintained positive revenue growth thanks to efficient operating management, cost reduction measures, and a commitment to delivering the best patient experience possible. Dr. Fung has been instrumental in the expansion of El Camino Hospital, overseeing its transformation from a single-hospital campus in Mountain View to a comprehensive healthcare system with two hospital campuses (one in Mountain View and one in Los Gatos), as well as multiple ambulatory physician clinics and offices throughout Santa Clara County. The healthcare system's philosophy revolves around bringing care directly to the community, reflecting Dr. Fung's dedication to improving the health and wellness of the constituents.
